Just like we always have to have the first aid kits at home in case accidents happen, we also need to have the First Response Spill Kits in our workplace. Depending on what we are storing in our containers, each spill needs different treatment. We are going to discuss these treatments one by one in the series of blog posts. Today, it is about the first response spill kits for battery acid.
First Response Spill Kit for Battery Acid

If you store battery acid, you need to have a precaution in case spilling occurs. This substance is dangerous if it is let lying around long enough to be in touch with some other elements that could cause explosion. That is why you need this first response spill kit for battery acid.

Absorbing up to 20 gallons, the first spill kit has a variety of sorbents that can handle a battery acid spill. These sorbents are packed in a small drum together with gloves and goggles. With this battery acid first response spill kit around, you will have a quick and easy access if spilling happens. This efficiency is highly important especially because an immediate response is needed to provide safety. The drum is equipped with twist-on, double wall lid with a closed cell gasket to ensure that the drum is safely sealed. This is needed to protect the sorbents from moisture, dirt and damage. It is made of rust and corrosion free 100% polyethylene to withstand rough handling.

5 Gallon Buckets for Travelers

Do you enjoy traveling in your car, caravan, or RV for a long period of time? Do you even practically live in these vehicles? Then you will most probably need 5 gallon buckets stocked up in your temporary mobile home. The following discusses the uses of 5 gallon buckets for travelers and nomads.

As containers

Let's start with their real original function: as containers. Put a 5 gallon bucket in your caravan and store your tools or dry/can foods. When you want to make use of the bucket for something else, remove all the items and utilize the pail for one of these functions below.

As trash bin

If you line a bucket with a plastic liner, you can use it as a trash bin. Especially in a long journey where you cannot dispose your rubbish anywhere, this trash bin will serve its function alright.

To wash laundry

Long travels will involve some washing dirty clothes. You can use your 5 gallon pail for this. Just do it the conventional way – combine water and detergent in the bucket and wash the clothes in it – or transform it into some sort of motor-less washing machine.

As seats

You don't have too much space in your vehicle in most cases. So you probably cannot bring your camping chairs or folding chairs. But you may want to sit outside sometimes. In this case, you can utilize your 5 gallon pails as seats. Just turn them over and put some cushion to add comfort. If you don't have it, it is fine, too.

To wash your vehicle

The long roads will get your vehicle dirty at some point. Either it is dusty due to the dry climate or muddy in the wet climate. You can use the 5 gallon buckets to wash your car or RV.

As portable toilet

Again, you probably will get to a condition where you are in nowhere. When nature calls and your vehicle is not equipped with a toilet, you will need to be creative. Your 5 gallon pail can be turned into a portable toilet. All you need are just a small garbage bag, some mulch and 2 pieces of boards. Then follow the instruction in the link above. Voila, you get your very own DIY portable toilet.

You could probably find some other functions of 5 gallon buckets as you are in your journey. But one thing that everyone has to admit is that 5 gallon pails are too versatile to miss in your travel.

Drum Trucks for Plastic Drums

Sometimes, being mobile is highly crucial at a huge workplace. When drums need to be moved frequently from one place to another, drum trucks come in handy.

These drum trucks in discussion are dedicated to handle plastic drums. With welded steel frame at 1.24" diameter, the drum trucks can handle about 1000 lbs capacity. The trucks have replaceable toe pads to minimize the possibility of breakage on the plastic or poly drums when being transported. The drum trucks are also equipped with locking belt mechanism that functions to keep the drum secure on the trucks.

Another plus that these drum trucks offer is the replaceable, floating, spring loaded axle to break back the load easier. It also enables the drum trucks to stand upright.

These drum trucks come in two models: standard drum trucks and universal drum trucks. Both come in three kinds of wheels: mold-on rubber wheels, steel wheels and polyolefin wheels. The only difference between the two is that universal drum trucks are designed to handle all poly drums including overpacks, while the standard drum trucks do not handle overpacks.

Storing Food in 5 Gallon Buckets: How Many Oxygen Absorbers Needed?

A while back, we talked about storing food safely in 5 gallon buckets. To slightly recap, 5 gallon buckets are basically a great tool to keep dry food for maximum 5 years. To do this, you may need an air tight lid, where the gamma seal lids come perfectly to provide this condition. And then we also discussed that oxygen absorbers would also come very handy in keeping the oxygen - known as the supporter of the growth of aerobic pathogens and spoilage organisms – out of the container.

This post is to give you more knowledge on the right amount of oxygen absorbers needed to preserve food in 5 gallon buckets.

  1. First of all, you need to know that the amount of empty space in a 5 gallon pail is 18,492 cc. From here, you can weigh the food item you are about to store in grams. If you are not used to measuring in grams, you can measure it in ounces then convert the result here.
  2. Once you get the result, subtract the volume of your 5 gallon bucket (18,492 cc) with the content weight (in grams). This will result to residual volume (space left after the contents are put in the 5 gallon pail.
  3. Since the air has about 20.5% of oxygen, multiply the residual volume you've got above with .205. The result is the cubic centimeter volume of oxygen in the pail.

That is the last measurement you need to know how many oxygen absorbers you need. If the food content fills up the 5 gallon pail, then maybe you don't need much of it. Our oxygen absorbers come in two different absorbent capacities: 2000 cc and 300 cc. Check your oxygen volume in cubic centimeter that you got and put the right amount of oxygen absorber into the pail before sealing the lid.

GRACO® Air Powered Oil Pumps

These Graco air-powered oil pumps have reliable oil dispensing from 55 gallon drums or 35" deep tanks.

The pumps are low maintenance and constructed with hard-coated aluminum. With 3/8 NPT air inlet (female), ½ NPT material inlet (male), it only has 4 moving parts.

Choices come between bung-mounted or cover-mounted models. The following is the detail.

Both of those fireball models have the power to supply multiple stations, at the same time they are economical enough for portable lubricators. There is large 3" air motor that can automatically adjust itself to meet demands.

For large fleet operations, we suggest the President model as described below. It has big 4 ¼" air motor that can supply multiple oil outlets.

For the President oil pumps, you may need this air regulator with no gauge to ensure even smoother dispensing.

Food Pails for Everyone

Do you enjoy hosting parties? Have you ever held a picnic party or a beach party for your friends or your kids? Here is an inexpensive idea to have a nicely decorated outdoor party.

Well, normally you don't excessively decorate the venue for your casual outdoor party. Unless it is a wedding or other life turning point celebrations, you unlikely over decorate the already beautiful mother nature. But the guests should be kept entertained and amused. And a little effort like giving away decorated food pails could be a great idea.

All you need are several 5 gallon pails, or smaller pails for children. Choose high quality pails that are FDA-approved, like our pails, so that they are safe to contain foods. Get some different colors of paint, and decorate the outer side of the pails with simple patterns; like polka dot, stripes, and if you have a little bit of drawing talent, draw something funny with your paint brush. Dry the pails properly.

Make sure that there is no smell of paint anymore on the pails. Then start adding baguette, pate, strawberry jam or muffins inside the pail. Make it as attractive as possible by slipping printed paper towels between the food and the syrup bottle, for example.

That's it. Pretty sure in the end of the party your guests will admire your creativity.

Other tips:

You can leave the pails unpainted, but instead put attractive inexpensive cloth or scarf around the pails. Or you can also use ribbons or patterned stickers.

Green Usage of Plastic Containers

Below are some suggestions on how you can better treat your plastic containers so that they are safe to use for you and the family.

  1. When you have to purchase a plastic container, go with high-quality food storage containers. These will last for years and that is a reason enough not to fill the landfill with one-time use things only.
  2. Fatty foods like meat and cheese, especially when hot, should not be stored in plastic containers or plastic wrap. These types of food are likely to help the transfer of plastic toxins.
  3. Use a nonabrasive soap when washing reusable plastic containers. And do it with your hands. Dishwashers and other detergents can scratch plastic, which can encourage bacteria to stay.
  4. Don't microwave foods in one-time use containers like yogurt tubes or take-out bowls. They can melt or warp and can possibly transfer harmful chemicals into the food.
  5. Also to be safe, don't use microwave-safe plastic containers in the microwave. The microwavable lable means that the plastic doesn't melt or fall apart when used in the microwave. But it does not guarantee that it doesn't leach chemicals into the foods.
  6. Get rid of your old plastic containers. Especially when you see that they are badly scratched, it is one obvious indication that you should stop using it to store food. However, you can still use the container to store non-food items.

Would you say that you go green now that you know how easy it is to start it simply with your plastic containers

ORION® 1:1 Oil Dispenser Pump

Storing petroleum or synthetic based oils need special oil transfer pumps to work with. We have quite some varieties that you can choose from. But today we will be discussing Oriona oil dispenser pumps.

Oriona 1:1 is divided into 2 choices; i.e. Orional oil dispenser drum pump for quick transfer and Oriona oil stub pump for dispensing specific amount of oil. They are both ideal for dispensing oil directly from the pump's lever tap. With an operating pressure of 25 – 145 psi, the pump delivers 7 gallon per minute and displays high performance even in tough operating conditions.

They have fewer moving parts for less wear and reduce noise as dispensing activity is conducted, and the simple one-touch dispensing system is so easy to use?

The pumps come with a ¼ inch air inlet, ¾ inch oil outlet and a 2" bung adapter.

Plastic Containers Shopping Guide, Part 2

To continue our discussion on the best plastic containers:

Number 4 means Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE). Found in grocery bags and cling wraps, this plastic is safe and recyclable.

Number 5 means Polypropylene (PP) as normally found in yogurt cups and cloudy bottles. This type of plastic is safe and recyclable.

Number 6 means Polystyrene (PS). If you buy a take-out coffee, you are most likely served with cups made of PS.

Number 7 means other types of plastic resins that are not mentioned above, mostly invented post 1987. It includes Polycarbonate (PC), Polylactide (PLA) and BPA-Free plastics. PLA is fine to use for food-based containers as it is the type of plastic that is made from renewable resources with high starch content like potatoes and sugar canes. It is unrecyclable but since it is made from plants, these plastics can be composted.

Now that you know which plastic is safe to pick, which type of plastic resin should you pick for your plastic containers?

Plastic Containers Shopping Guide, Part 1

Almost every household has plastic containers. They could be used for storing foods or other smaller items to promote organization in the house. However, do you know that some plastics are not really recyclable than the others? Do you use plastic containers that are safe for living? Check out the shopping guide below before you decide to buy plastic containers.

First of all, you need to know the different types of plastic. Plastics are put into categories based on their resin identification code. If you buy something made of plastic, you usually can see this resin identification code on the bottom of the plastic container. It normally comes with a recycling triangle logo that indicates a number in the middle. This number is the one you should be paying attention for.

Number 1 means Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET/PETE). You find this kind of plastic in plastic bottles or disposable soft drinks. When you buy one of those, make sure you dispose it after the first time use. PET is hard to clean and it absorbs and keeps bacteria and flavors.

Number 2 means High Density Polyethylene (HDPE). You can find it in jugs and liquid detergent bottles. HDPE doesn't transmit known chemicals to your food and normally the municipal recycling program accepts it.

Number 3 means Polyvinyl Chloride (V or PVC). It can normally be found in plumbing pipes, cooking oil bottles and meat wrap. PVC contains phthalates – a sort of softeners – that mess up with hormonal development. Avoid this number 3 in your plastic container if you want to use it to store food.

Drum Vents

On sale price at the moment, we have highly versatile drum vents!!!

Especially when you are storing flammable liquid, you will most likely need one of these drum vents. They prevent dangerous pressure build-up and airlock if your drums are exposed to heat or fire. The vent plugs automatically open at 5 psi/internal pressure to protect the drum. There is a built-in flame arrestor that prevents "flashback" ignition of the vented vapor to the drum contents.

Drum vents that fit 2" NPS bung opening come in choices of vertical and horizontal drum vents. Vertical drum vents include the ones made of Polyethylene steel (for petroleum-based chemicals), polyethylene stainless (for chlorinated solvents and corrosive chemicals), and all brass (for petroleum-based chemicals).

Horizontal drum vents also fit 2" NPS bung opening of drums stored on side. With automatic pressure relief, the vents manually relieve vacuum when draining contents. The varieties include drum vents with all brass and all brass steel.

If you need assistance in deciding which vents are for your drums, contact our representative at 888-460-3786.
