Zee Line Hand Drum Pumps

We have discussed one of Zee Line Drum Pumps - Zee Line Economy Steel Lift Pump -  two days ago. Now we are going to discuss a few models that share similarities on how they work and how they fit similar drums.

Basically these Zee Line pumps are good fit to many solvents and chemicals. They handle many light liquids and chemicals by delivering about 8 ounces per upstroke. On the pump you have a removable discharge spout that allows the attachment of clear vinyl hose assembly. If your barrels store between 15 to 55 gallons and have 2" NPS bung opening, you should look no further than these Zee Line pumps.

What you need to pay attention to is the type of solvent or fluid you are storing.

Nylon Plastic Stainless Steel Pump and Plastic Pump with Vinyl Hose Assembly will be suitable for stronger chemicals and solvents as well as edible products like cooking oils. While if you store paint thinners and other general solvents, Nylon Plastic Nickel Plated Pump will definitely work best. Weak acids, anti-freeze and some mild chemicals and detergents will want Polypropylene Plastic Nickel-Plated Pump

Storing Food in 5 Gallon Buckets

5 gallon bucket
There are several things that one needs to know before storing food in 5 gallon buckets.

First of all, always ensure that the buckets you are using have food grade certification. This is highly important as containers that are made of non-food grade materials may harm the food items stored inside. You can tell whether a container is food grade or not by finding the mark or label on the plastic pail.

If you have a food grade 5 gallon bucket but you used it for storing non-food items before, FDA – US Food and Drug Administration – states that it should not be reused to store food. Remember to play it safe, so follow this suggestion. Food is stored for longer period of time if there is minimum contact with the air. So make sure you don't leave the 5 gallon bucket open too long or too often.

Also make sure that the lid you are using provides an airtight function. Any single hole that lets air go in and out the pails will not be good for the food stored inside. In this case, a gamma seal lid will work best.

oxygen absorber
Another great idea to store together with your food product is the oxygen absorbers. A small package of this chemical compound helps a great deal in extending the life of the stored food as it absorbs the oxygen that is known as the supporter of the growth of aerobic pathogens and spoilage organisms. Different formulations are dedicated to different types of stored food. So make sure you get the right oxygen absorbers for your 5 gallon buckets.

Reconditioned Barrels as Trash Barrels

Do you know what is good to use as trash barrels? Reconditioned open-head plastic barrels. Whether they are from your own one-time used plastic barrel or the reconditioned drums you buy from a container company, this type of barrel is useful for keeping trash in a big amount until it is time for it to be taken away.

You most likely need these quality drum liners made of premium linear low-density polyethylene to cover the insides of your barrels before you put any trash inside.

Anyway, an important thing to remember is that it is best to manage your waste into two different trash barrels. One is for the plastic and other non-degradable trash and the other is for the degradable waste. The degradable waste can be reused as manure if you care to make it, or if you have enough gardening plot in your house, you can simply dump it on the ground. Be aware not to dump edible things that famine is attracted to or they would be comfortable enough to make your house their house. As for the non-degradable waste products, you can take them to the recycle company so that they can be turned into something reusable.

Beckson Drum Pump

Beckson Drum Pumps are a great choice if you want to pump out your alkalis, acids or petroleum products. These hand drum pumps are made of a special PVC resin that eliminates the danger of lifting or tilting drums. With the PVC, the material is safely transferred from your drum to another container.

The self-priming drum pumps are designed to have high durability and safety. Constructed with the combination of valve and seal materials, Beckson drum pumps also have optional strap-lock slips over the pump to be padlocked in place to prevent unauthorized dispensing.

The models of Beckson pumps that we have include those for steel or plastic drums. They are also divided based on the type of liquid stored. Refer to this short guide for the most compatible pump to go with your contained fluid and check with our helpful representatives if it indeed fits your need.

Grease Guns

Grease guns are needed for the lubricating activity on machineries.  Most factories or plants need this as a part of the maintenance of their machines.

Bay Tec grease guns are top quality. They are inexpensive yet very durable, thanks to the bright zinc plated steel construction with precision-fitting parts. They are also not too big so that you can always one handy with you.
Our grease guns come with a choice of hand or air-powered. Hand-operated guns are spring-primed up to 7000 psi, while air-powered guns use 75 – 100 psi air at 40:1 pressure ratio. All models available here accept standard 14 1/2" grease cartridge and they can be filled from a pump or by suction.

There are different fitting styles that we offer. They come in different lengths and angles to make the lubricating job easier for different types of machines. We have heavy duty lever-type grease guns that come with either 5 ½" spout, 5" spout, or 12" flex hose. In these models, the grease is pushed through the aperture by back-pressure built-up triggered by hand cranking mechanism of the gun. This applies pressure to the spring mechanism behind the lubricant and pushed the grease out.

There are also heavy duty grease pistol-type guns with 5" spout and 12" flex hose where the back-pressure built-up happens because the butt of the grease gun is pushed. This action will slide a piston through the tool body and pump grease out.

The last one is air powered (pneumatic) grease guns where compressed air is forwarded to the gun by hoses.

Measured-Shot Dispenser Pumps

This blog post will be about measured-shot dispenser pumps. We already discussed one of them yesterday, the one-ounce pump for one gallon bottle. And now we are going to talk about the rest of the series.

Measured-shot pumps basically dispense an exact amount of stored item out of a container. Like the one-ounce pump delivers exactly one ounce per stroke. So are the other pumps in this category. The only exception is that they can deliver one or two ounces per push.

These dispenser pumps draw liquid directly from jugs, pails or drums – whatever container it is you are using. But likely the small scale containers. The pumps dispense the stored material through an 8' hose or spout. They have a body made from polypropylene and bellows from polyethylene. To accommodate different kinds of materials, the measured-shot dispenser pumps come with choices as described below:

·         EPDM seals and hose – perfect for detergents
·         EPDM seals and spout – perfect for detergents
·         Silicone seals and hose – perfect for chlorine
·         Silicone seals and spout – perfect for chlorine
·         Viton seals and hose – perfect for solvents
·         Viton seals and spout – perfect for solvents

Food Preservation: Hot Jaw Sealer for Mylar Bags

Continuing our discussion from yesterday’s food preservation, we are going to talk more about the one tool that Mylar Bags cannot live without – Hot Jaw Sealer.

The most popular kind of hot jaw sealer for Mylar bags is the one coated with Teflon. The sealer has two jaws that are Teflon coated, which produce heat at the right temperature to melt the inner layer of a Mylar Bag and create a solid air-proof seal. The non-existence of oxygen inside the Mylar bags will shield the food stored inside from spoiling. So this is really the simplest way one can preserve their food.

Moreover, this bag sealer will also work on any other bag materials, making it a versatile tool that can be used in other types of applications.

Check out our Hot Jaw Sealer here and get a Free Shipping if you order one (or more) now.

Food Preservation : Mylar Bags

One of the many ways to preserve food is by using Mylar bags. A Mylar bag is a clear material made from polyester resin. There are various uses of Mylar bags, but they are most often found in food preservation activities.

Certain types of food are easily preserved when contained in these bags and tightly sealed with hot jaw sealer. This way no moisture or air is allowed to get in and out of the bag, which stops the food from deteriorating since there will be no oxygen inside to encourage the preserved food from being spoilt.

For food products like cookies, pastries, nuts, candies and confectioneries and many others, Mylar bags can be a great option to do this food preservation. They do not take much space and they are flexibly stored and preserved.

Check out Bay Tec’s quality Mylar Bags of different sizes here and enjoy Free Shipping for some of the items.

How to Clean Stainless Steel Drums

Stainless Steel Barrels

Although stainless steel is more corrosive resistant than any other type of metal, drums made from stainless steel work their best when they are regularly cleaned. It is not hard to clean a stainless steel drum, but it sure needs to get done properly to prevent any built-up dirt or soot on it.

What you need to prepare are:
  • -         A soft cloth
  • -          Solution of non-chloride detergent and water
  • -          De-greaser solution
  • -          5 gallon bucket
  • -          Sponge
  • -          Stainless steel cleaner and polish
  • -          Gloves
  • -          Scouring pad

Here are the step-by-step instructions to clean your stainless steel drums:
  1. Put on your gloves.
  2. Make a solution of detergent and warm water in the 5 gallon bucket.
  3. Wet the sponge with the detergent solution and wipe it onto the drum’s surface making your way from the inside of the drum to the outside. If the drum has a polished finish, wipe it in the polish lines direction so that the detergent does not scratch the polish.
  4. Rinse the drum from the detergent solution with warm water.
  5. Using a de-greaser solution and scouring pad, wipe the oily spots clean.
  6. Rinse again using warm water until you have no trace of the de-greaser solution.
  7. Wipe dry the drum with the soft cloth.
  8. Using the same soft cloth, polish the drum with stainless steel cleaner going from the inside to the outside.

Your stainless steel drums are now good to use again. Remember to do this frequently and the anti corrotion function will work well for a long time.

How to Store Dry Food for a Long Time in 5 Gallon Buckets

5 gallon buckets
Storing dry food is crucial for some people who have little access – or wish – to frequently going to the supermarket to buy foods. With a 5 gallon bucket or more, this problem can be easily tackled.

5 gallon pails are cheap and strong. Some of them have food grade certification that allows them to contain food ingredients inside. This is what you need for your food storing project. Food-graded buckets.

Gamma seal lids
Next you will need a gamma seal lid. This lid is different from the normal pail lids since it provides an airtight environment inside the bucket. Food easily deteriorates when it has intense contact with oxygen. So the gamma seal lids are needed to completely block the air from the outside to get into contact with the stored food inside.

That is basically just it. Easy and practical and everyone can store their dry foods for 5 to 10 years with only 5 gallon buckets and gamma seal lids.

How to Make a Seat from 5 Gallon Bucket

The story has not ended for the ever so versatile 5 gallon bucket; from functioning as its original purpose as a container to things you might not have thought about before. We discussed how the 5 gallon pail could be turned into a portable toilet during camping or hiking. Now we are going to explore how it can be used as a seat.

Yes, a seat. A portable seat that you can take around to your favorite fishing or camping, or any other outdoor activities. These are the steps to make your own outdoor seat from a 5 gallon bucket.
  1. Get a good quality 5 gallon pail which is sturdy enough to hold your weight. Bay Tec Containers offers 90 mil super heavy duty 5 gallon buckets that are way much stronger than the normal thin 70 mil buckets sold in other stores or dealers.
  2. Put a kitchen cushion pad on the bottom of the pail and fasten them together with fabric glue.

That’s just it. You already get your nice bucket seat. If you want to use it as a container of your fishing or camping equipments, you can do so by turning it over, detaching the cushion and putting it into its normal position while it is holding the stuff inside. Whenever you need to transform it into a seat, just reattach the cushion back on the bottom.

Safety Carbon Steel Drum Pump

What is the difference between Carbon Steel Drum Pump and Safety Carbon Steel Drum Pump?

For one, one gives more safety assurance than the other. Although both are made from carbon steel which provides a high resistance to solvents, acids and bases, it is not a total guarantee that your pump would not cause a massive explosion in your work place.

It is a fact that a movement of liquid creates static electricity. If it flickers, it will start a fire if there is flammable component in the air. Safety pumps are made to prevent this to happen when handling combustible liquids.

This Safety Carbon Steel Drum Pump is a good money value for the features it offers. Supplied with 2” NPS bung adapter, the safety pump fits 15 to 55 gallon drums. It has built-in bonding and grounding wires equipped with heavy-duty alligator clips. The carbon steel body is polished with fluoropolymer piston, packing and gasket. There is also an internal flame arrestor in the plated steel suction tube, which makes it fire proof.

Tipping Lever Drum Cradle

“What is the specialty of drum cradle with a built-in tipping lever?” you might ask.
For one, it makes liquid dispensing a much easier task. You may not need a pump to take the liquid out as you will reposition the barrel horizontally instead of vertically. With only the right faucet for opening and closing the access of the liquid, draining drum can’t be any easier.
This tipping lever drum cradle fits 55 gallon steel drums with a maximum capacity of 600 lb. It has 15” drain height, so make sure the container where you are filling into is less tall than that.
The cradle comes with different choices to suit your storing room conditions:
-          With built-in inboard wheels made of polyolefin. The wheels are mounted inside the cradle frame, which is perfect if you do not have too much space in your drum storing room.
-          With outboard wheels. Because the wheels are stuck out, the cradle presents more stability.
-          With swivel casters made of polyolefin that are mounted inboard. These give maximum maneuverability.
-          With swivel casters plus drip tray kit with absorbent pan.
-          With swivel casters plus replacement absorbent pan. The slide-out drip tray helps prevent messy work area.
Whichever type tipping lever drum cradle you want to choose, make sure it fits the environment of your working site and the tools you already have. Should any confusion occurs, do not hesitate to contact Bay Tec Containers friendly staff for the right recommendation for you.

Making a Portable Toilet from 5 Gallon Buckets

We discussed how 5 gallon pails are so versatile to take to a camp site. But we have not yet elaborated how they could be a practical use during camping time. This time we are going to discuss how the 5 gallon bucket is great as a portable toilet, especially when we camp at places with no access to plumbing.

What we need:
  • gallon pail
  • Mulch
  • 2 pieces of boards
  • Garbage bags

How to make the portable toilet:
  • Cover the inside of the bucket with a garbage bag and make sure the end of the bag goes over the top of the pail so that it can be fastened with the bucket lid.
  • Put the mulch about half of the pail. This will help absorb urine and to cover up the smell.
  • Put the two boards on top of the 5 gallon pail for us to sit on. Voila, your emergency toilet is done!

Note: every time you go to the toilet cover with more mulch. The concept is really like the cat litter system. The more you cover it, the less smell you’ve got.

Water Saving Projects with Bay Tec

Water is so important in our daily life, but good usable water is getting scarcer and scarcer. We have several thoughts of saving the so-called “waste” water and reuse it for other purposes. Check out some of these brilliant ideas below:
  1. Use a rain barrel of more to save pouring rain water for later uses. This rain water can be used to flush your toilet or water the garden. You just need to have the closed head drums or barrels (plastic is better since it is more corrosion-resistant), connect them to one another if you want to catch more rain water, put a faucet for easy dispensing, and voila… your own water resource that saves city water as well as money (from paying city water).
  2. Use a 5 gallon buckets or more to catch the first cold water flow from your shower before you get the warm one. You can keep them around the bathroom and use them to flush the toilet.
  3. The ever so versatile 5 gallon pails are also good as a water-catching container from air-conditioning vent. Put it outside under the vent and let it catch the drops wasted by the air-conditioning. This can be reused for watering the garden.

Make use of what is around your house to save water and environment. In the long run if everybody does this, it will save our children’s future too.

Check out Bay Tec’s products above to save the water you normally waste in your house and save yourself from getting water problems.

Steel Drums or Plastic Drums?

When do we have to use steel drums and when do we have to use plastic drums? These are a couple of questions to answer your question.

What is the material that you want to store?
If you want to use the barrels for harvesting rain, plastic drums are the best. Plastic barrels have more resistance against corrosion and they can keep the water clean for other uses (watering the garden, showering, etc.)

If you need drums to contain crude oil or other petroleum products, steel barrels are the standard use. Also make sure that the steel drums meet the UN requirements for hazardous materials.

If you want to age wine, stainless steel barrels will be a good choice. They have been known as the alternative wine-aging barrels from the traditional oak barrels.

Where do you want to keep your barrels?

If you are keeping them outside or off the shade, it is very important to see if the drum material is made from rust inhibitor. Therefore, plastic is good for outside use. If they are going to be kept inside, all the other barrels will be fine to use. However, the rust resistant material will also come to a great benefit to protect the barrels and the products inside from the humidity.

Good luck finding the best drums for your product! If you have any question or need a suggestion, don’t hesitate to call (888460-DRUM) or email us for free consultation.

5 Gallon Buckets at School

Not only versatile at home, at the office, in the garden and at the camp site, 5 gallon buckets are also useful at school – especially for the very young pupils.

Firstly, like its use as a container for toys at the play room at home, the same thing can be applied in kindergarten classes. Multi color 5 gallon pails are good to store the teaching props – which are basically toys, too.

Secondly, 5 gallon buckets can also be used as the “lockers” for the students’ good. With bright-colored pails, the kids will absolutely dig them. They can store their coloring pencils, erasers, rulers, and even books.

Thirdly, these multifunction buckets can be brought outside on a field trip or just outdoor teaching and function as the seats for the children! All you need to do is to place the pails upside down, cover the bottom of the pail (which is now the top) with a thin cushion to add more comfort for the kids. Practical.

Fourthly, they can be used as one of the teaching props, too! Different colors on different pails will teach students of early age the colors. This is obviously also useful at a language class. High Capacity Drum Cradle with No Wheels

Another important drum accessory that is often used in storing liquid content is drum cradle. Drum cradles help easier dispensing as the drum is put sideways, with their top and faucet facing on our side.

This non-wheeled high capacity drum cradle can handle 55 gallon steel drums. Its body is double welded with steel frame and can contain 1000 lb capacity. The cradle is design to resist slippage with its skid resistant frame and its built-in lower chime hook on its nose plate. Of course the latter only works if the steel drum has a top rim for the chime hook on the handle. The drum also needs to be 29”H to be compatible with this cradle.

The cradle frame measures 30” long by 18” wide by 20 ¼” tall. If you order it, you get it already assembled.
